Fishing

With its unsurpassed water quality, Big Basswood Lake is home to an abundance of native trout, whitefish, smallmouth bass, walleye and brook trout.  Local guides can take you out on the lake to catch these prize fish or guests are welcome to use the Melwel boat ramp.
The lake is so clear that fisherman say they can see the fish 30 feet below the boat!

The month of June is prime time when the trout are feeding on the surface.  As summer approaches, the lake trout go deep and smallmouth bass become active, from 6 inch kids’ specials up to 5 lbs!  Late August and the fall is when our salmon runs occur, and 20+lbs Kings and ever iridescent Pinks provide lots of action.

Local, full service guides are available on a prearranged basis. 
$120 per day if you supply your own boat and
$200 per day for all inclusive guides.
